Introduction

On week 2, the start of this course, i have high hopes for this module, since i have always been interested in learning 3D modeling for a long time, but i didnt have the time to do it. In the start of this module, i expected for us to learn blender, so i was surprised when i heard we would be learning autodesk maya instead.
We were taught the basic of maya and 3d modeling in week 2 and a few tools during that time. Which is where our first exercise comes in.

1. Exercise 1

Weeks 2-4
For our exercise 1, we were tasked to make a few object by using only basic modeling tools in maya. The basic objects that we were tasked to make are:
  • Basic Chair
  • Basic Table
  • Any Chess Piece
  • Basic Mug
These sounds super simple, which is similar to our skill level right now, so i felt confident in making them.

Reflection

In exercise 1, i learned a lot of stuff especially the basics of autodesk maya and 3D modeling, with this new knowledge it sets a new foundation for future modeling. I learned a lot in here especially getting used to it, making edge loops, few tools such as extrude, which would be used a lot in the future.

Assignment 1

Our first assignment is where my journey in 3D modeling truly begins, after learning all the basic fundamentals, its time to start making a 3D render.

So our first assignment we were tasked on making a Bathroom.
Here, my first thought was to make a bathroom that is earthy warm vibe, since if i want to design my own bathroom, i would like an earthy vibe as my bathroom, so i started getting references for Mood Boards and got this as mine.

Bathroom Mood Boards

With these mood boards, i start doing the assignment and try my best to fill the bathroom as much as possible to make the bathroom not seem empty, with that in mind i started modeling the bathroom and got this results

Turn Table Final Render

In my first 3d modeling assignment i learned a lot of stuff, especially in modeling furnitures and plants, learning how to model plants sounds complicated at first but after a few times and copy and pasting them, it gets easier. I learned how to use the deform tool to make a leaf and many other. Another thing that i learned was how to copy and paste many objects in sequence, and i use it to make the floor tiling.

Other than that in this assignment i learned how to texture models using the Hypershade window in maya, and finally Add correct lighting and render correctly and nicely.

From all the assignment, i am most proud of my work from this assignment

Exercise 2

After finishing up Assignment1, we were immediately tasked with Exercise 2, where in this exercise, we were tasked to make a Chess Board & All its Pieces with any theme you want, in this case as i has always been fascinated with underwater sceneries, i tried to make a chessboard underwater.

With that this is the moodboard i gathered.

Turn Table Final Render (With Lightings)

Turn Table Final Render (No Lights)

In this exercise, i learned more about lighting and how to have custom lighting such as being underwater, turns out its not a water material but its all about the lighting. In this exercise i also learned more about Making unique shapes, For all of the chess pieces, it was pretty easy, just make a line and make it turn into a circle, the hardest part of this exercise is making the horse piece, or in this case a seahorse pieces. It was very interesting to learn unique shapes especially shapes like animals like seahorse.

Assignment 2

In this assignment, we were tasked with hard surface modeling Sci-Fi Prop or Machine Design. In this assignment, i was first confused on what too make, so i tried to make the thing that i think will take the most Shapes, so i decided to make a spacecraft, a spaceship and van hybrid, because i think its a cool concept
So with these i gathered these as a Mood Board and start making the ship.

In this assignment, i made a spaceship and i learned a few things such as hard surface modeling. The most important thing that i learned in this assignment was how to UV map and texture it. In this assignment i only use Hypershade and individually assigning textures to faces. With that i get the shiny outer layer border.

Final Project

After all this assignment, its time for the final project, after all the exercises and assignment. I am ready for the final project.

So for the final project, we were assigned to make Robot, the requirements for the robot is for it is to be humanlike and have 2 hands and 2 legs and we can have any theme we want.

So for my theme i decided to go for Humanoid Robot, since i wanna try a humanoid model once, as i have experience drawing humanoid model in 2D so now i got to try in 3D. I feel like this is the best way for me to learn making character 3D models in the future if i want to make a game, so i decided to do it

Robot Turntable Final Render

I learned a lot in this final project. First and foremost, i learned how to make a humanoid face in 3D Modeling, Starting from a square to a humanoid face, Shaping the mouth and the eyes, its a new and good knowledge for me. After that another thing that i learned in this assignment is using Adobe Substance Painter, its an application to texture a model and then import it back into maya. So i can say right now that i'm pretty confident in making 3D models for games in the future and will use this knowledge to make 3D games.
